    Resting between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea, Slovenia offers a wide choice of attractions ranging from lakes and mountains to small fishing villages clinging to the coastline. Here karstic lakes and the Postojna Caves provide a glimpse of what you will see. Being a relatively small country everything is at hand. Ljubljana, the capital city is delightful to explore. Its narrow cobbled streets and Baroque architecture are reminscient of days gone by.

Monday Day 1: Arrive Ljubljana or Venice.

Upon arrival in Venice or Ljubljana you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure. This evening meet your fellow travelers for a welcome orientation meeting including a welcome drink. Overnight in Ljubljana.

Tuesday Day 2: Ljubljana, Postojna and Piran.

In the morning enjoy a sightseeing tour of Ljubljana. Travel to the Karst region. Your first stop is at the Postojna Cave, one of the largest in Europe. Tour this unique subterranean world by miniature electric train. After the tour, proceed to a nearby wine producer for Teran wine and prosciutto tasting, Finally, drive to Piran on the Slovenian coast. (B,Wt)

Wednesday Day 3: Bled                                                                      

A sightseeing tour shows you the highlights of this charming town on the shores of Lake Bled. You’ll also visit imposing Bled Castle, perched on a cliff high above the lake. We will return to the lake shore and taste the famous Bled cream cake. In the afternoon, travel to Skofja Loka, a beautiful medieval town with a castle that rises above the confluence of the two Sora Rivers, Poljanska Sora and Selska Sora. After the sightseeing tour visit the Nace homestead and taste some of the local products. (B)

Thursday Day 4: Nova Gorica to Bled (B)

This morning we drive upstream via the emerald green Soca River through Kobarid near the Italian border known for the Battle of Caporetto and mentioned in Hemmingway’s Farewell to Arms. Visit the WW1 museum and travel to Bled and end the day in this peaceful town beautifully situated in the Alps. Overnight in Bled.

Friday Day 5: Bled to Soca Valley (B)

Aside from being stunned by the natural sights and sweet delicacies of Bled, the town features a little white church (Church of the Assumption) on an island in the center of an emerald green mountain lake and the imposing Bled Castle a picturesque white and red castle enclosed by a Romanesque wall with parapets, ramparts, and towers.  Top of Form

The history of the castle reaches back to 1004 when the German Emperor Henry II gave his estate at Bled to Bishop Albuin of Brixen. The distinctive feature of the castle is its double structure – the fortified centre part was intended for the residence of feudal lords, whilst the outer part with walls and buildings was intended for the residence of servants. The rest of the day is at leisure or you can take an optional tour to Skofja Loka built by the bishops of Freising. The Castle was almost totally demolished in the earthquake in 1511 but it was restored by the bishop Filip.
The Škofja Loka Museum has occupied the castle for four decades and contains archeological, historical, cultural, art, ethnological, and natural science exhibits that provide a survey of the history of Škofja Loka region and some of the extremely important events in Slovene history that occurred here. Overnight in Bled.

Saturday Day 6: Bled and Bohinj (B/D)

The day is at leisure in Bled. There is the possibility of joining an optional tour to the other  Alpine beauty,  Lake Bohinj which lies between Bohinj’s Mountains and is Slovenia’s largest glacial lake. A chance to visit Sheppard’s Museum and taste the best Slovenian cheese. Return to Bled. Tonight gather for a farewell dinner at local restaurant and overnight in Bled.

Sunday Day 7, depart Bled (B)

After breakfast you will be transferred to Ljubljana or Venice airport for your flight home.
